Get your vehicle winter safe

Get your vehicle winter safe

Well, winter is here and in full effect.  Even the south is experiencing temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s.  Is your vehicle packed with the essential safety items for the frigid weather?  There are a few things you may want to go over before venturing out in this frigid weather.

The most important thing you should carry in your car is a survival bag.  It should consist of blankets, lighters, candles, a whistle, a can of soup, and a plastic bag for gathering snow.  Never put a survival bag in the trunk. It should be within a few feet of you at all times.  It will do you no good if you can’t get to it if you need it.

Make sure you let people know if you are going to be traveling in heavy snow.  Have a route planned out.  Make sure at least two people are aware of your travel plans.  Make sure your cell phone is charged and that you have a back-up charger.   Have your vehicle serviced.  The oil and all other fluids should be at proper levels.  Make sure your tires are inflated properly.  Tires lose a pound of pressure for every ten degrees Fahrenheit.  Gerber Collision and Glass have seen the dangers associated with winter driving.  Be extra careful.  Driving in winter conditions are no time to be in a rush.
